The Detroit Red Wings are a young and developing team. With a plethora of top prospects, could they add another abandoned name this off-season?

The Detroit Red Wings currently hold the eighth overall pick in the 2022 NHL draft. That pick marks the Red Wings sixth straight top 10 selection. And if that doesn’t tell you how pathetic this team has been over the past half-decade, I don’t know what will. But, change is coming.

The Red Wings this past season gave top prospects, Michael Rasmussen, Mortiz Seider, Lucas Raymond, and Joe Veleno, chances in the NHL. Raymond and Seider really stood out this past season and were both competing as potentiall finalists for the 2022 NHL Calder trophy. Although Raymond didn’t make the cut, Seider did.

Moritz Seider finished this past season having played in all 82 games. And in those 82 games, he had seven goals, 43 assists, for 50 points. Now, he did finish the season with a -9 which isn’t great. However, that can’t all be on him. The goalie situation was less than ideal all year long.

The reasoning behind all of this is because, it’s clear the direction the Red Wings are going. They want to develop and build young. Which, knowing that that’s their gameplan, the Red Wings could be hitting the trade block this off-season.

The Red Wings young organization could be the perfect situation for some of the former first-round picks that haven’t quite found their footing with their current organization. The name that I feel fits that criteria is the New York Rangers- Kaapo Kakko.
