Could the Red Wings Be a Possible Suitor for Alex Debrincat?
It was reported by NHL insider, Frank Seravalli, that the Chicago Blackhawks will be shooping star winger, Alex Debrincat this off-season. If that is in fact true, should the Red Wings target the winger?
Alex Debrincat is one of the big named wingers in not just the Blackhawks organization, but in all of the NHL. Being 24 years old, and already being a consensous top-line player, the package the Blackhawks will recieve for him would be quite large. Which is undoubtedly why they are shopping him.
Making $9,000,000 as a star player is good. However, the Blackhawks are in a huge cluster and have a lot to figure out. First, they have to figure out what’s going on with their coaching situation, and that’s just the start of it. There are many, many, more problems that the Blackhawks need to resolve. In knowing that, Debrincat can give their team a ton of assets and prospects that can help them grow at a cheaper cost than $9,000,000 per year.
If all of this is true, could the Red Wings be a possible suitor for the 24 year old winger?
Well, in answering that question, there you have to answer it in multiple parts. First, you have to find a coach who is capable of coaching a younger roster. Because, well, let’s be real, this team no matter what you do, is still going to be a sub-30 roster. Having only a couple guys who surpass the 30 year old mark, this team is going to be a young roster. So, can the coach work with that? If not, then that brings us to why the Red Wings need to trade for Debrincat.
Alex DeBrincat is a 24 year old winger, but the thing that makes him so appealing is the fact that he is locked up for many years to come. Furthermore, he is already a proven player unlike some of the guys well be trying to depend upon for production this upcoming season.
If the Red Wings hire a coach like Bruce Cassidy, or Barry Trotz, the Red Wings will not be a team that accepts losing. On the other hand, the Red Wings are young and may look for a coach that is slightly inexperianced to grow with the team.
How they go about everything is so speculative at this point. But, let’s say that the Red Wings want to pursue Alex DeBrincat, what would a trade look like?
What Would a Red Wings-Chicago Blackhawks Trade Package Look Like?
The Detroit Red Wings currently have assets and prospects coming out of every nook and crease you can find. I mean, they have so many talented prospects that it’s hard to believe just how good this team could one day be. But in the mean time, they have to find ways to win games. Otherwise, the fan base will never be pleased.
Finding a balance between youth and veterans is what makes a good organization good. Unless, and this is the only exception, you go all in on star youth- a player like Alex DeBrincat. So, if that’s the way the Red Wings wanted to go, what would a trade package look like for DeBrincat?
This si something I just mocked up. So, my thoughts on the trade:
The Red Wings would be getting another superstar winger that could line up on the top line alongside Dylan Larkin and Lucas Raymond. In my opinion, that would be the best option for the Wings. So, what justifies what I chose to give up to get DeBrincat. Well, I’ll brake it down.
The Red Wings have a top 10 pick this year which would justify quite a bit. But, DeBrincat is a proven star and that holds more value than a simple draft pick. That’s where the second-rounder next year comes into play. The pick I would be giving up is the Red Wings second-rounder they received from the St. Louis Blues. So, they would still have a second-rounder for next year.
As far as throwing in Jonatan Berggren, that has more to do with them wanting to replace DeBrincat with a younger, cheaper version and I feel that Berggren will have to be apart of the trade if they wanted to acquire DeBrincat. So, what do you think? Would you do this trade?
