Can Lucas Raymond be the Red Wings Rookie To Bring Home the Calder?

Lucas Raymond has been one of the Red Wings best players this season and the fact that he’s a rookie makes it that much more impressive.

This season Raymond has been playing alongside Dylan Larkin and Tyler Bertuzzi and has done nothing but good things up there. With great speed, a terrific wrist shot, good vision he has found himself being one of the Red Wings most reliable players when you look at the big picture.

I emphasize the big picture part of that statement because he has gone through some droughts this season that were inevitable. If he wouldn’t have had any ups and downs then there’d be no point in talking about him because there mean’s there is nothing to really grow on. He would’ve plateaued and he is what he is.

That’s the type of person who doesn’t deserve the Calder Trophy, but Raymond does.

This season, Raymond is on pace to play in all 82 games for the Red Wings. If him and Seider both accomplish that, it’d be pretty impressive. But anyways, getting back to where I was originally going with that statement.

Raymond has played in 71 games this season for the Red Wings. In those 71 games he has 22 goals, 31 assists for 53 total points. Furthermore, he’s played really smart as he’s only obtained 16 minutes in the box. All that while averaging 18:16 per night on the ice.

Raymond has done almost everything you’d want from a rookie and seeing him win the Calder Trophy would be pretty amazing to see. But what do you think? Can Raymond walk away with the Calder this year?
