The Detroit Red Wings scored goals in all three periods and secured a 6-3 victory over the visiting Philadelphia Flyers.  It was the first home game for the Red Wings after a disasterous 1-3-0 road trip last week.

First period

Joe Veleno got the Red Wings on the scoreboard early in the 1st with a beautiful around-the-net goal to give Detroit a 1-0 lead.  Jakub Vrana made it 2-0 on a nice feed from Tyler Bertuzzi.  The Red Wings outshot the Flyers 8-7 and had a 2-0 lead after the 1st.

Second period

Both teams shared goals in an entertaining 2nd period.  Lucas Raymond put Detroit up 3-0 with his 20th goal early in the period.  Philadelphia scored 25 seconds later and then added another at the 7:56 mark of the period.  Jakub Vrana scored his second of the night on a perfect pass from Dylan Larkin to restore the Red Wings two goal lead.  Shots were 10-10 in the 2nd period and 18-17 for Detroit overall.  Detroit has a 4-2 lead after the 2nd.

Third period

The 3rd period started out rather eventful when Givani Smith got into his first fight of the evening.  Detroit killed off their second penalty of the night before Philadelphia narrowed Detroit’s lead to 4-3.  Oskar Sundqvist scored his first goal in a Detroit uniform to give the Red Wings a 5-3 lead at the 17:09 mark of the third.  Tyler Bertuzzi scored his 25th goal and third point of the night at the 18:49 mark of the period to put the game away for Detroit.  At the drop of the puck after the Bertuzzi goal, Smith got into his second fight of the evening.

Philadelphia outshot Detroit 16-13 in the 3rd period and 33-31 overall.  Marc Staal is 1st star of the game.  Jakub Vrana is 2nd star.  Detroit beats Philadelphia 6-3.
