Griffins Report: Brattstrom posts first SO on Saturday

Grand Rapids Griffins rookie goaltender Victor Brattstrom earned the shutout in the Griffins only win last week.  The Griffins lost their other two games and currently have a record of 23-22-7.  The Griffins started the week playing Iowa at home on Friday.  The Griffins were shut out 4-0.  On Saturday, the Griffins executed revenge on the Wild defeating them 3-0.  On Sunday, the Griffins lost a close battle 3-2 on the road in Milwaukee.

The Griffins are currently 4th in the Central Division.

Joe Veleno was returned to the Griffins on Sunday and should be ready to play games for the Griffins this week.

Player Preview: Victor Brattstrom

 Victor Brattstrom played one game last week and earned his first AHL shutout as the Griffins defeated Iowa 3-0.  Brattstrom made 35 saves and earned 1st star of the game.

Brattstrom has recently  improved his play and has three wins in his last four starts.  In 14 games, Brattstrom now has a record of 5-7-2, with a 3.44 GAA, and an .894 SV%.

Brattstrom is currently in the final year of his two-year entry-level contract with Detroit.  He currently earns a salary of $70,000 to play in the AHL.  Brattstrom will be a RFA at the end of the season.

Detroit Red Wings Prospects Update

Taro Hirose continues to lead the Griffins in scoring.  Hirose scored two goals and added one assist in three games last week.  In 51 games, Hirose has scored 14 goals, 31 assists, 45 points, and a -8 rating.

Jonatan Berggren remains second in Griffins scoring after the week.  In three games, Berggren earned one assist.  In 49 games, Berggren has 14 goals, 23 assists, 37 points, and a -13 rating.

Ryan Murphy continues to be the top scoring defenseman for the Griffins.  Murphy was held pointless in all three games last week.  In 48 games, Murphy has scored 10 goals, 13 assists, 23 points, and a -9 rating.  Murphy also leads all Griffins defensemen with 91 shots on goal.

Jared McIsaac had another quiet week picking up one assist in three games.  In 51 games this season, McIsaac now has five goals, 14 assists, 19 points, a -6 rating, and 90 shots on goal.

Chase Pearson scored one goal in three games last week.  Pearson was selected as the 3rd star of the game on Saturday when his goal was the game winning goal in a 3-0 victory.  In 40 games, Pearson has scored six goals, 10 assists, 16 points, and a -13 rating.

Joe Veleno was returned to the Griffins on Sunday.  It looks like Veleno will remain in Grand Rapids until a roster spot opens up at the trade deadline in Detroit.  In 11 games with the Griffins, Veleno has six goals, four assists, 10 points, and a -2 ratiing.

Dan Renouf was held pointless in all three games last week.  In 39 games, Renouf has scored one goal, eight assists, nine points, and leads the Griffins with a +14 rating.

Calvin Pickard played two games last week and had a 1-1-0 record.  Pickard was selected as 2nd star on Sunday after making 28 saves on 31 shots.  In 38 games, Pickard has a record of 18-14-5, with a 2.47 GAA, and .923 SV%.

Next Week

Grand Rapids play three games this week starting with a home game on Wednesday against first place Chicago.  On Friday, the Griffins will host Cleveland.  Both home games will start at 7:00 PM ET at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, MI.  On Sunday, the Griffins will travel to play Chicago in a matinee affair.  Game time is 4:00 PM ET at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, IL.
