Mid-Season Grades for Detroit Red Wings Prospects

Cross Hanas (LW/C, Portland Winterhawks, WHL)

Grade: A-

Cross Hanas is currently playing in his 4th and final season in the WHL.  In 38 games, Hanas has 15 goals, 34 assists, 49 points, and a +15 rating.  Hanas is the top scorer on a red hot Portland team that has gone 16 games without a regulation loss.  Portland are currently ranked #5 in the CHL and look like they will have a long playoff march towards the Memorial Cup.  Hanas must be signed by Detroit this summer or he will become a free agent.  Hanas should sign his entry-level contract at the end of the season, and will likely start his professional career next year in Grand Rapids (AHL).

Alex Cotton (RD, Vancouver Giants, WHL)

Grade: B

Alex Cotton is currently playing in his 5th and final season in the WHL.  In 38 games, Cotton has scored 11 goals, 18 assists, 29 points, and a -17 rating.  Cotton must also sign an entry-level contract with the Red Wings this year or he will become a free agent.  Cotton will likely sign a professional tryout with Grand Rapids (AHL) following his season, and his contract status will be determined before his signing deadline this summer.

Kienan Draper (RW, Chilliwack Chiefs, BCHL)

Grade: B

Kienan Draper is currently playing his 1st season in the BCHL.  In 35 games, Draper has scored 11 goals, 18 assists, and 29 points.  Draper continues to improve as the season goes along, and is set to join the University of Michigan roster next year.

Pasquale Zito (LW/C, Windsor Spitfires, OHL)

Grade: B-

Pasquale Zito is currently playing in his 2nd full season in the OHL (the OHL cancelled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic).  In 29 games, Zito has scored 14 goals, 11 assists, 25 points, and a -4 rating.  Zito will play one more season in the OHL before possibly turning professional in 2023.

Oscar Plandowski (RD, Charlottetown Islanders, QMJHL)

Grade: C+

Oscar Plandowski is currently playing in his 3rd season in the QMJHL.  The QMJHL recently resumed play after several weeks because of the COVID-19 pandemic.  In 28 games, Plandowski has scored three goals, six assists, nine points, and a +7 rating.  Charlottetown are currently the top ranked team in the QMJHL and #4 in the CHL.  Plandowski should get a long playoff run because the QMJHL will have two teams in the Memorial Cup this spring.  Plandowski will play one more season of junior before possibly turning professional in 2023.
