Red Wings NCAA Prospects: Phillips starting to score at Boston University

Now that the NCAA has entered the second half of the season, teams are rounding into form for their runs at the Frozen Four and the NCAA Ice Hockey Championship.  One player in particular, junior Ethan Phillips, is currently on a tear for the Boston University Terriers.

Prospect Focus: Ethan Phillips (Sophomore, C/RW, Boston University)

Ethan Phillips has finally started to score for Boston University.  The 3rd year player struggled throughout the first half of the season but, during the last five games, he has been scoring at will for the Terriers.  Phillips  scored four goals and five points during the last two weeks of play.  After the 6-4 win against UMASS on Tuesday and the 5-2 win over Providence yesterday, Phillips has eclipsed his best season totals for goals and points in a season.  This year,  Phillips has now played 20 games and has scored five goals and added eight assists, for 13 points, and a +3 rating.

After this season, Phillips has one year of NCAA eligibility remaining before he must be signed to a professional contract with Detroit.

Here is a look at the remaining Detroit prospects that are currently playing in the NCAA.

Carter Mazur (Freshman, LW, Univ. of Denver)

Carter Mazur continues to lead all Red Wings NCAA prospects in scoring.  In his last six games, Mazur scored two goals, added four assists, for six points, and a +7 rating.  During his freshman season, Mazur now has played 24 games and has scored 11 goals, 13 assists, 24 points, and a +18 rating.

Robert Mastrosimone (Junior, C/LW, Boston Univ.)

Robert Mastrosimone is currently the 3rd highest scorer on his Boston University team.  He is also the 2nd highest scoring Detroit Red Wings prospect playing in the NCAA.  Mastrosimone has now set personal records for NCAA goals and points in a season.  In his last five games, Mastrosimone scored three goals.  In 25 games this year, Mastrosimone has nine goals, nine assists, 18 points, and a +4 rating.

Red Savage (Freshman, C, Miami Univ. Ohio)

Red Savage is on the top line as a freshman at the University of Miami (Ohio).  During his last nine games, Savage has scored three goals, three assists, six points, and a -5 rating.  In 25 games this year, Savage has scored six goals, nine assists, 15 points, and a -9 rating.

Ryan O’Reilly (Sophomore, RW/C, Arizona State Univ.)

Ryan O’Reilly continues to chip in offensively during his sophomore season at Arizona State University.  In his last five games, O’Reilly scored one goal, one assist, two points, and an even +/- rating.  In 25 games, O’Reilly has scored six goals, five assists, 11 points, and a -6 rating.

Shai Buium (Freshman, LD, Univ. of Denver)

Shai Buium has had his offensive production stalled during his freshman season at the University of Denver.  During his last four games, Buium has been held with any points and has a +1 rating.  In 22 games this season, Buium has one goal, eight assists, nine points, and a +11 rating.

John Adams (Senior, RW/C, Univ. of Notre Dame)

John Adams continues his inconsistent offensive play in his final season at Notre Dame.  Adams was held without a point during his last four games.  In 24 games this year, Adams has scored two goals, six assists, eight points and a +1 rating.

Antti Tuomisto (Sophomore, RD, Univ. of Denver)

Antti Tuomisto continues his steady play at the University of Denver.  In the last six games, Tuomisto scored his first goal of the season and earned a +1 rating.  In 23 games this year, Tuomisto has scored one goal, six assists, seven points, and a +18 rating.

Sam Stange (Sophomore, RW, Univ. of Wisconsin)

Sam Stange continues to struggle offensively at the University of Wisconsin.  In the last five games, the sophomore forward has recorded one assist and a +1 rating.  For the season, Stange has played 27 games and scored two goals, four assists, and a -4 rating.
