Recap: Red Wings shutout by Hellebuyck and Jets, 3-0

After a rough stretch on the road, things didn’t get much better at home for the Detroit Red Wings, as they lost 3-0 to the Winnipeg Jets.

First Period

The first period was a relatively even affair, but Winnipeg had a bit more of a presence in the offensive zone. Alex Nedeljkovic made a few great saves to keep the game within reach, but ultimately, the Jets came out of the first twenty minutes with a 1-0 lead thanks to a goal from Andrew Copp.

Second Period

The second period had plenty of penalties, but neither team could convert on the man advantage. Detroit had two opportunities, and despite some decent movement, the unit failed on both tries. In fact, seconds after their first power play attempt of the period, a breakaway goal from Copp extended Jets lead to two.

Third Period

Things started looking hopeless in the third period. The Red Wings just could not enter the zone cleanly, struggling to complete any clean passes and promptly turning over the puck upon zone entry.

However, in the final minutes, there was a glimmer of hope. Tyler Bertuzzi was hooked, sending Detroit to the man advantage with just over five minutes left. Lucas Raymond was tripped up less than a minute into the power play, and the Red Wings had an opportunity to make Winnipeg sweat with a 5-on-3. Just to make the odds a little better, Jeff Blashill pull Nedeljkovic to make it a 6-on-3. Thanks to a few great saves from Connor Hellebuyck (and a few misfires from the Wings), the Jets managed to escape the scare unscathed. Kyle Connor tossed the puck into the empty net shorthanded, icing the game

Detroit still has only one win in 2022, with five losses thus far (technically, two of the losses are considered ties as they went to overtime).

The Red Wings are back in action Saturday night, hosting the Buffalo Sabres. The puck is set to drop at 7.
