8 Observations after the Red Wings 6-2 Loss to St. Louis

The Detroit Red Wings struggled to find the net in a 6-2 loss to St. Louis Thursday night. But it was fun seeing Robby Fabbri pot two more against his former team this season. Obviously the result wasn’t what anyone wanted but good on Fabbri for making sure Blues and Red Wings absolutely realize Steve Yzerman won the deal.

Here are seven more observations:

2: Lucas Raymond keeps doing Lucas Raymond things, having primary assists on both of Fabbri’s goals. The first just stopping the puck and leaving it for a cutting Fabbri, and the other a stretch pass that eluded everyone and found Fabbri on the tape. The vision that Raymond has is off the charts and just keeps adding to the legend that is quickly rising to the levels of former Red Wings legends.

3: Michael Rasmussen may have had his best game of the season and nothing shows his effectiveness and motor defensively than when he disrupted and blocked several shots as the Red Wings had an empty net. Rasmussen also looked better offensively, taking the puck a couple times to net strong and not getting knocked off the puck as he had been in games past. Hopefully, this is a turning point.

4: Also to take note of–this team absolutely played its rear off to the bitter end, blocking shots and doing whatever they could in the face of a three-goal deficit to try and claw back. This is a team missing a chunk of impact players and the compete continues in spite of what looked like a lost cause late.

5: A little on Moritz Seider: 

Lost in that beautiful drop by Raymond and finish by Fabbri was how Seider started that play. He wouldn’t be credited with an assist (it would be Larkin and Raymond) but just like Raymond, Seider’s presence of mind and hockey IQ makes him a top three pick in any re-draft of the 2019 NHL draft. With every game, he looks like more and more of a steal.

6:  If you didn’t catch this story of a young fan getting.a stick from Lucas Raymond, it was awesome. Congrats to that young fan and to his dad, who seemed (understandably) more nervous that his son’s wish was granted.

7: The Wings have lost pretty badly in their last two games, but this game felt more like just some bad bounces, like the fifth goal St. Louis scored, or the shot that ricocheted off the crossbar for Hronek. They looked better that the other night, which is a plus.

8: But it won’t get any easier. Bally Sports Detroit showed a graphic that has the Red Wings as the team with the hardest schedule for the remainder of the season. Tyler Bertuzzi and Jakub Vrana can’t get back any sooner.
