Red Wings Sink Kraken 4-3 to Win their Fourth Straight

It was the first time in franchise history that the Seattle Kraken would visit Little Caesars Arena to take on the Detroit Red Wings. With both teams riding winning streaks, who prevail in what was the first between the Kraken and the organization known for its Octopus (and this site’s name inspired by it).

Lucas Raymond notched his tenth of the season and the Wings gutted one out in the shootout to prolong their winning streak in a 4-3 victory over Seattle.

The first period saw a Raymond goal but it was waived off after replay showed the rookie forward was offside. The period would end scoreless and in the second, Robby Fabbri slammed one home on the power play to give Detroit a 1-0 lead. Seattle would tie it later in the period and then take the lead with just under four minutes on left in the second when Ryan Donato snapped a shot past an out of position Thomas Greiss. Jordan Oesterle slipped as he crossed the goal line and the puck was taken away as Donato curled and headed to the slot.

The forward was threaded a perfect pass and Greiss really didn’t have much of a chance as the Kraken took a 2-1 lead. But the Red Wings would answer with a crease crash goal that saw Vladislav Nemestnikov’s shot knuckle through and tie the score up at two.

In the third, Raymond wouldn’t be denied this time as he took a feed from fellow rookie Moritz Seider and buried it to give the Red Wings a 3-2 lead. It was the tenth goal of the season for the reigning Rookie of the Month, who took the baton from the previous ROTM, his teammate Seider.

But the Kraken wouldn’t go away. Donato scored his second goal of the night on a broken play that he wristed past Greiss to even the score at three. From there, it went to overtime.

But there wasn’t much as Seattle absolutely suffocated the Red Wings attack in overtime, rendering the attack useless, even with a Larkin-Raymond-Seider trio on the ice. Filip Hronek came close on a beautiful feed from Filip Zadina in the dying seconds but it rang off the post and it was onto the Wings’ first shootout of the season where they would notch their fourth straight victory.

Dylan Larkin and Adam Erne would get the two shootout goals, giving Detroit the 4-3 win and Greiss his 150th victory of his career.

After a road trip, the Red Wings have bounced back mightily, winner of four straight and pushing their record to 12-9-3.
