Brian Lashoff has been a mainstay in the Detroit organization for the last 13 years. He has played 513 games for Grand Rapids (AHL) scoring 109 points. He has also suited up for 136 NHL games for Detroit scoring 15 points. Last year, Lashoff was the captain in Grand Rapids and will continue to bring veteran leadership to the Grand Rapids defense.

Jared McIsaac was a 2nd round draft pick, #36 overall in 2018. After three shoulder surgeries, McIsaac appears to be healthy and ready to play his first full season of professional hockey. With a solid season in the AHL, McIsaac is forecast to be on the fast track to the NHL.

Ryan Murphy was the 12th overall selection in the 2011 draft. He has played parts of seven seasons in the NHL. He has played for Carolina, Minnesota and New Jersey during his NHL career. Last year, Murphy played a full season in the AHL and won the Eddie Shore Award as the league’s top defenseman. Murphy is excellent insurance at the NHL level and will help mentor the young Griffins defensemen this year.
Wyatt Newpower

Wyatt Newpower was an undrafted defenseman who played four seasons for the University of Connecticut. He was the captain during his final season in 2020 where he also won the NCAA (Hockey East) award as Best Defensive Defenseman. He signed a one year free agent contract and played for Cleveland (AHL) during his first season professionally in 2021. Newpower is a right-shot defenseman who has a chance to develop into an NHL defenseman in the near future.

Seth Barton was drafted by Detroit in the 3rd round, #81 overall in the 2018 draft. He played three seasons for UMass-Lowell (NCAA) before turning professional last year. Barton is a right-shot defenseman who has lots of room to develop into a regular on the Griffins blueline.

Dan Renouf was originally an undrafted signing of Detroit in 2016. He played three seasons at the University of Maine (NCAA). He has also played in the AHL for Charlotte and Colorado. He has played on two teams that have won the Calder Cup as AHL Champions. Last year, Renouf also played 18 NHL games for the Colorado Avalanche where he recorded three assists. Renouf is a solid addition to the Griffins blueline.
