Final Thoughts
The 2015-16 season was another year of Detroit re-building on the fly. General Manager Ken Holland seemed to have a difficult time dealing with the salary cap era of the NHL. Every season, the Red Wings were up against the salary cap with little cap space to add players at the deadline. Poor long-term contracts to marginal players were the downfall of the Red Wings. By the end of 2017, the 25 year playoff run was over and a complete re-build has been in place.
Under the guidance of Steve Yzerman as General Manager, the Red Wings re-build seems to be on the road to recovery. With over $25 million in cap space, the Red Wings can look forward to being in the playoffs once again in the near future.
