Left Wingers

Great centers make the wingers they play with better.  With that being said, the Detroit Red Wings had a few left wingers who had terrific years while playing with Zetterberg and Datsyuk.

Dylan Larkin was an NHL rookie in 2015-16.  He was third in scoring for the Red Wings, accumulating 45 points in 80 games.  He played left wing for much of his rookie season.  As of this year, it would be the only time Larkin has played playoff hockey for the Red Wings.

Gustav Nyquist is a prime example of a left winger who benefitted from playing with one of the top centers.  During the last playoff year, Nyquist scored 43 points in 82 games, good for 5th on the Red Wings.  Nyquist has now played 11 years in the NHL and now plays for Columbus.

In 2015-16, Darren Helm was a reliable bottom six left winger for the Red Wings.  He played 77 games and scored 26 points, good for 9th on the team.  He just concluded his 14th season playing for Detroit and recently signed a one year contract to play with Colorado.

Anthony Mantha played his first NHL games for Detroit in 2015-16.  He played 10 games and recorded three points.  He played the majority of the season in the AHL with Grand Rapids.  A mid-season trade last year will allow Mantha to continue to play in the NHL with Washington.

Drew Miller scored two points in 28 games for Detroit in 2015-16.  He played one more year in Detroit before retiring from the NHL.

Johan Franzen played the final two games of his NHL career in 2015-16.  Severe concussions brought his career to an end after playing parts of 11 seasons with Detroit.
