The signing of Wyatt Newpower was probably the quietist signing of the summer.  Newpower signed a two-year entry-level contract with Detroit at the end of May.  Newpower played for the University of Connecticut (NCAA) for four years before signing a one year free agent contract with Cleveland (AHL).  In his final season, Newpower was the captain and earned NCAA (Hockey East) Best Defensive Defenseman and was named to the Hockey East Second All-Star Team.  In 114 NCAA games, Newpower recorded 47 points.  He will most likely begin next year in Grand Rapids (AHL) , but could see time in the NHL before the end of the season.
