Luke Witkowski returns to Detroit on a two-year contract after playing the last two seasons in the Tampa Bay organization.  A rugged and versatile player, Witkowski has spent the last two seasons as captain for the Syracuse Crunch (AHL).  In his career, Witkowski is a veteran of 131 NHL games and 261 AHL games.  Witkowski will be a mentor for the young Red Wings prospects in Grand Rapids (AHL) next year.

Mitchell Stephens was obtained in a trade with Tampa Bay for a 6th round draft choice in 2022.  He will be a RFA after next season.  Stephens was originally drafted by Tampa Bay 33rd overall in the 2015 draft.  Current Detroit General Manager Steve Yzerman drafted Stephens after he played two seasons for Saginaw (OHL).  Stephens also played for Canada during two World Junior Championships where he helped Canada win a silver medal in 2017 by scoring five points in five games.  Stephens has played 45 games at the NHL level and has scored seven points.  In 135 AHL games, Stephens has scored 84 points.  He will be attempting to make the Detroit roster and is excellent depth as a right shot center in either Detroit or Grand Rapids (AHL).
