Red Wings: Analyzing Yzerman’s Offseason Trades and Signings

Detroit Red Wings General Manager Steve Yzerman continues to have a very busy summer as he has had to endure the Expansion Draft, Entry Draft and free agency. Throw in trades and Yzerman has almost completely transformed Detroit for the upcoming season.
Here is a look at all the movement that has occurred in Detroit this summer. The first two we start with Yzerman acquired via trade.

Nick Leddy is a former first round draft choice, 16th overall, for the Minnesota Wild in 2009. He has played 12 seasons in the NHL for Chicago and the New York Islanders. He was acquired from New York for Richard Panik and a 2021 2nd round pick. The left shot defenseman will most likely be paired with Moritz Seider to form the top defensive unit for Detroit. Leddy has one year remaining on his current contract before he can become an UFA.
