Analysis

Detroit went to Sweden again in the 5th round and drafted Liam Dower Nilsson.  NHL Central Scouting ranked Dower Nilsson as the 27th best European skater prior to the draft.  Playing with first round selection Simon Edvinsson, Dower Nilsson played on five teams last year.  He played for Frolunda J18 where he scored four goals in two games.  He played five games for Forlunda (SHL).  He was loaned to Hanhals (HockeyEttan) where he collected 14 points in 14 games.  Dower Nilsson represented Sweden at the World U18 Championships where he was the captain and scored four points in seven games.  Next year he will continue to play for Frolunda in Sweden’s top junior league.  He has an outside chance of playing at the World Junior Championships in either 2022 or 2023.
