Edmonton Oilers

James Neal

Contract: Two Years, $5,750,000 (Annual Cap Hit)

Position: RW

GP: 29

G: 5

A: 5

PTS: 10

I am not in favor of this trade, but Edmonton needs to dump salary and James Neal fits the profile. According to capgeek.com, Edmonton has almost $70 million committed to 19 players.  Getting James Neal off the books would help Edmonton stay under the cap.  Neal just finished his 14th NHL season.  He has played for five different teams covering the last eight seasons.  Neal has missed significant stretches of games during each of the last five years.  In 850 NHL games, James Neal has scored 555 points.  He has also played 110 playoff games.  If Detroit trades for him, Neal will bring a veteran presence to the Red Wings.

Trade Scenario:

James Neal and a 2022 2nd Round Pick to Detroit

Future Considerations to Edmonton
