Elmer Soderblom

2021 Team: Frolunda (SHL)

Age: 20

GP: 28

G: 3

A: 2

PTS: 5

Elmer Soderblom was a 6th round draft choice in 2019. The enormous 6’8 forward will play one more season in the SHL before possibly moving to North America in 2022.  He has soft hands and can skate exceptionally well for a big man.  Last year he scored four points in four games in the J20.  He also represented Sweden in the World Junior Championships, scoring three points in five games.

Kirill Tyutyayev

2021 Team: Yunost Minsk (Belarus)

Age: 20

GP: 43

G: 11

A: 21

PTS: 32

Kirill Tyutyayev is an exceptionally skilled player who was drafted in the 7th round in 2019.  His diminutive stature hasn’t slowed Tyutyayev as he seems to score at every level.  He has been signed by Grand Rapids (AHL) for one season.  If he makes an impression, expect Detroit to sign him to an entry-level contract before 2022.  If his development stalls at the AHL level, expect Tyutyayev to go back to Europe following this contract.

Robert Mastrosimone

2021 Team: Boston University (NCAA)

Age: 20

GP: 15

G: 3

A: 5

PTS: 8

Robert Mastrosimone is a former 2nd round draft selection, #54 in 2019.  He had his development slowed this season because his team only played 16 games due to the pandemic-shortened season.  Mastrosimone will be looking to get back on track next year playing his junior year with Boston University.  Detroit owns Mastrosimone’s rights until August 15, 2023.  With continued development, expect Detroit to sign him to an entry-level contract within the next two years.

Cross Hanas

2021 Team: Portland (WHL)

Age: 19

GP: 6

G: 2

A: 2

PTS: 4

Cross Hanas is a former 2nd round selection, #55 in 2020.  He started last season on loan to Lincoln (USHL) where he scored 16 points in 27 games.  He will play for Portland (WHL) for a 4th season next year.  Hanas must sign with Detroit by June 1, 2022 or he becomes a free agent.

Chase Bradley

2021 Team: Sioux City (USHL)

Age: 19

GP: 52

G: 22

A: 18

PTS: 40

Chase Bradley was drafted in the 7th round by Detroit in 2020.  He will play for the University of Connecticut (NCAA) next year.  Bradley has lots of time to develop as his freshman season begins in the NCAA starts this fall.  His rights are owned by Detroit until August 15, 2025.

Final Thoughts

Left wing is currently a strength in the Detroit Red Wings organization.  A team never has enough depth, so don’t be surprised to see the Red Wings select more left wingers in the upcoming draft.  The top left wingers available in the Entry Draft this year include: William Eklund (can also play center), Dylan Guenther (can play either wing), Fyodor Svechkov (can play any forward position), and Oskar Olausson (can play either wing).
