Robby Fabbri and the Detroit Red Wings continue to roll. Fabbri notched a natural hat trick and the Red Wings earned their second win in as many tries during a 3-2 victory over Dallas.  Jonathan Bernier looked like he was very hurt after a collision that saw him limping off the ice. Not only does it not bode well for the potential trade options but it also means the Wings lose one of their most consistent performers this season.

Detroit opened the scoring with the red hot Fabbri, who now has eight points in his last eight games.

It would be more of the same in the second when Fabbri sniped a laser by Jake Oettinger to give the Wings a 2-0 lead.

He wasn’t done either. Fabbri added his third of the game with just over ten minutes left in the third period. Dallas added a couple goals to make it interesting and held pressure in Detroit’s zone in the final minute,

It’s now fair to say that Robby Fabbri has joined the Red Wings core as one of the building blocks for escaping the rebuild phase. What a game from the kid–who was traded straight up for Jacob de La Rose.

Isn’t it great knowing that Steve Yzerman is Detroit’s general manager?

Red Wings Bad News

Bernier going down doesn’t help things on any front as he’s easily been one of the best Red Wings all season long. It’s a shame because he’s been so good and keyed a number of Detroit victories this season. Never mind the trade deadline–here’s hoping he’s okay.

Final Thoughts

  • The Red Wings are 3-2-1 in their last six and are beating good teams, as written about earlier by Alex. It’s cautious hope that maybe what we’re seeing is indicative of baby steps that reveal better days are getting closer.
  • Is there any doubt that Troy Stecher and Fabbri are Yzerman’s two best moves so far in his tenure as Detroit’s general manager? There are certainly others over the last two seasons, but it shows you just how good he is with talent evaluation.
  • The Griffins’ game was postponed against Chicago tomorrow due to Covid protocol. Grand Rapids’ NBC affiliate Wood TV reports that a makeup game has yet to be announced.
