The Detroit Red Wings will maybe see some more luck in the coming NHL Draft. Regardless of what occurs, I believe Steve Yzerman has killed the draft the last two seasons and done well in spite of a flawed draft system that saw the Red Wings fall for the fourth consecutive time in spite of being the worst team in the league. Now the league is trying to remedy that with some new proposals that have be to voted upon.

The new proposals being voted on soon would see the following things:

-Teams would be limited to no more than two lottery wins in a five-year period.-Teams would be allowed to jump only 10 spots with a lottery win.-The number of picks decided by the lottery would be reduced from three to two.

It’s a great start but honest to God, there better be a frozen envelope for Detroit during the Shane Wright draft.

2021 Draft Appears to be staying in July

Compounding this is that now it appears the 2021 version of the draft will be staying in the present year after all. This of course is problematic because the bulk of players eligible for the draft haven’t played hockey in a very long time.

From the Athletic:The NHL Draft will remain on schedule to take place this July, sources confirmed to The Athletic’s Corey Pronman. The news comes after ideas such as delaying the draft to the winter or waiting until the summer of 2022 were proposed to the NHL earlier this year. The draft is scheduled to take place July 23-24.

Again, with Yzerman in charge, I don’t really feel like having it in 2021 or 2022 matters beyond much else than seeing a young prospect play more. It’s expected that Yzerman, his front office, and scouts have been analyzing tape just in case.
