The Red Wings secured their spot at the bottom of the Central Division with a disappointing loss to Nashville Tuesday night.

In what may have been one of the more frustrating games of the season, the Predators outplayed, outshot, and, most importantly, outscored the Red Wings.

Special teams also took a beating, as the power play continued to fail (0 for the last 37, for those keeping track). The penalty kill was not much better, giving up two goals on four attempts.

Bernier continued to show that he is the best goalie on the Red Wings roster, with a save percentage of .939, but was unable to prop the team up without any goal support.

This was low event hockey through and through. The defense played solid throughout the first two periods, but the offense couldn’t find a foothold at any point in the game. Relying on stellar goaltending and a strong defensive effort can result in surprising upsets like the Wings had over the Panthers last week, but it can also result in games like this, where the offense goes cold, and the defense makes a few mistakes late.

The Red Wings will wrap up the final game of their six-game home stand on Thursday. They’ll also be looking to tie the season series at two with a win.

Red Wings Game Notes

  • Evgeny Svechnikov remains out of the lineup, and continues to sit and watch while the team struggles to do anything offensively.
  • As we saw in practice yesterday, the two players sent on waivers the past couple of weeks, Danny DeKeyser and Frans Nielsen, both found a spot in the lineup.
  • The game probably should’ve been 3-0, if not for an overturned goal late into the 2nd period. It was determined that Bernier had been interfered with, leading to the no-goal ruling.
