When I think about Detroit Red Wings forward Tyler Bertuzzi the first thing that comes to mind is a grinder, then mucker but he’s much more than those terms could ever express.

Tyler Bertuzzi has proved to be so much more valuable to the Detroit Red Wings than just a grinding forward, and lately, he’s setting records.  He’s the first Red Wing to ever record three or more points in four straight games.

Don’t overlook that, let this sink in for a minute.  The first Wing to ever do something is unique in its own right but when it comes to points with a rich historical franchise like Detroit is incredible.

The young forward has accomplished something Gordie Howe, Steve Yzerman, Ted Lindsay, or Sergei Fedorov hadn’t been able to fulfill.  It is something we shouldn’t overlook, and we should embrace what this kid has accomplished, we are so smitten over the draft lottery we shouldn’t ignore the entire first line being on fire.  Dylan Larkin, Anthony Mantha and Bertuzzi have a combined 35 points over their last five games.

In an article published on Mlive.com written by Ansar Khan; Jeff Blashill and Tyler Bertuzzi react to the history that was made.

"Bertuzzi became the first player in franchise history to record four consecutive games with three or more points, a fact that floored coach Jeff Blashill.“Blew me away, I couldn’t believe it, to be dead honest with you,” Blashill said. “You think of the players in this franchise, geez oh Pete, and the winning that’s been done here and the number of goals that have been scored. Different eras have had higher-scoring games, but for that to be the first time in history, I absolutely couldn’t believe it.”“I think I’m still a little shocked right now,” Bertuzzi said. “I haven’t comprehended it yet, but it’s something special. Like I’ve said before, I can’t thank my teammates enough, my linemates, for that run.”"

The top line is jiving, and it bodes well for the future of the franchise, the trio along with Andreas Athanasiou who is enjoying his role as the teams’ second line center provide the primary scoring.  Athanasiou has recorded nearly a point a game since Detroit Red Wings’ head coach Jeff Blashill committed to playing him as the second line center, something I suggested the team did months ago.

Over the last five games, Bertuzzi has 13 points 5 of which are goals.  On the season he’s scored 21 goals, added 26 assists totaling 47 points, and he’s an impressive plus 13.   It’s a scoring run that will likely stand for many years to come understanding that in all these years Bertuzzi is the first player in Red Wings history to accomplish it but imagine he could find a way to do it a fifth straight game tonight?
