With the NHL Trade Deadline fast approaching, the Detroit Red Wings have multiple options for forward Gus Nyquist. If the Red Wings feel he is a necessity for the future of this franchise they may hold on, but if not there are a few potential buyers that may want to add him for a playoff run.
The February 25th NHL trade deadline is nearly upon us, and the Detroit Red Wings are headed toward some crucial decisions they will need to make for the future of the franchise. With the strongest Red Wings rumors circulating Jimmy Howard and Gustav Nyquist, both of their futures with the Red Wings are unknown.
The goaltending situation may have gotten a little more interesting with the injury of Jonathan Bernier in the Red Wings most recent contest with the Flyers, but there have been many rumors of Jimmy Howard possibly being moved.
Gustav Nyquist has been the second name that has been thrown around with early talk saying that his asking price was a first round pick or better in a package deal, which is an obviously high asking price.
Nyquist is actually having a career year for the Red Wings in the 2018-19 campaign. Through 59 games, Nyquist has a total of 48 points which is just 6 points short of his career high. Nyquist’s 48 points come in the form of 15 goals and 33 assists while being -1 on the year so far for the Red Wings.
The great year Nyquist is having is not just standard scoring, he is also third on the team in Corsi For percentage as well as the Corsi For Relative percentage where he ranks third on the team in both categories. Essentially, these analytics mean that when Nyquist is on the ice, the Detroit Red Wings are benefitting by getting more shots and overall more possession time.
