He always seems like he is sitting in front of opposing teams’ nets. He has a feel for finishing plays. Bert figures into the Detroit Red Wings plans now and after the rebuild is complete.

The Detroit Red Wings brought up Tyler Bertuzzi last season when general manager Ken Holland traded Tomas Tatar to the Vegas Golden Knights. Bert has earned ice time and the trust of coaches and players alike. Last season in 48 games Tyler had 7 goals. This season in 25 games played he has 8 goals. Not to mention Bertuzzi has no qualms with getting under the skin of the opposition.

Tyler Bertuzzi’s game is not all about goals. No players game is or should be, Bert is a complete player. He gets into the low dirty areas and is not afraid to mix it up with whoever whenever the opportunity arises. Tyler blocks shots and plays above average defense. He uses his speed very well. He truly is the total package.

He wins battles, yet he still needs to clean up some passes, at times he makes to many errant passes into heavy traffic which often ends as a turnover.  Fans, teammates and the front office have to like what they see from the 23-year-old left winger. Bertuzzi works hard on his game, and he has shown in a brief time he can help this team grow and be a large part of the future.

What should not be lost is that Tyler Bertuzzi is ferocious on the forecheck. He plays with a high motor. I caught some flack for saying Bertuzzi was one of the Red Wings top forwards. I am sticking to that. His play dictates that title.

Do not be fooled by his appearance, his long hair, and big gaped smile. It gives way to a high-level athlete who is showing that he is one of Ken Holland’s better draft picks in recent memory. Not to mention he looks like he will be a high-end player for some time to come in Motown.

As noted Bertuzzi has a nose for the puck, and often finds a way to get it. Bertuzzi has some outstanding vision which helps him find rebounds and sending them towards the net. There are moments it looks like Bertuzzi’s style of play is rubbing off on rookie Michael Rassmusen, who has mimicked Bertuzzi’s play in front of the net at times.

When Bert was drafted, they said he needed to get stronger in order to stick in the NHL. That is no longer the case. He is plenty strong enough and quick enough to compliment his game.

The hard-working Bertuzzi is fast becoming a fan favorite and more importantly, the Detroit Red Wings organization seems very pleased with him.
