The Detroit Red Wings will look to get back into the win column tonight at home against a rival Columbus Blue Jackets franchise.

The Detroit Red Wings have dropped their last two games, but it wasn’t for lack of effort.  Against the Washington Capitals, the Wings came out flying and sputtered late in the third period surrendering a couple of late goals costing them a 3-1 loss.

The Blue Jackets have dominated the regular season series of late.  Over the last ten meetings, they have posted a stout 8-2-0 record against the Wings.  Detroit will look to derail that train tonight en route to a victory while defending home ice.

Saturday night the high flying Buffalo Sabres came into Detroit and skated to a 3-2 shootout victory.  The game was a tremendous game to witness.  The Sabres have so much speed, and Detroit has a couple of guys who can fly as well.  Both teams played well, so well it took seven rounds of the skills competition (shootout) to decide the contest.

A look a who is hot;

The Wings have been led by Andreas Athanasiou and Dylan Larkin.  The man we like to call Double-A has been on a tear recording nine points over his last eight games.  Dylan Larkin has five points over his previous eight appearances, but that doesn’t do him justice with the level of play he has produced.

Larkin is often matched up with the opposition’s top line playing them head to head.  Larks has been playing 22-24 minutes any given night by far leading the Red Wings forwards in ice-time. Howard has 3 wins over his last 5 starts, and that also includes a shootout loss.

Jimmy Howard has provided a surprising effort in goal this season.  The trio has led the Wings of late and will try to continue to pace the Wings as the season moves along.

Martin Frk makes his return to the lineup tonight for Detroit in place of Christoffe Ehn. Jonathan Ericsson is ready to go, and to my surprise, Jeff Blashill is leaving him in the press box as a healthy scratch.  I figured Jeff couldn’t wait to pencil his name into the lineup over Jensen once he was ready to roll, that won’t be the case tonight.

The Detroit Red Wings will need to neutralize Artemi Panerin and Cam Atkinson to have any chance at winning this game.  The Wings also need to make a constant effort to create havoc in front of Sergei Bobrovsky.  Anything he can see he will stop.  They need to make “Bob” uncomfortable in net.

The Detroit Red Wings projected lineup;

Justin Abdelkader – Dylan Larkin – Anthony Mantha

Andreas Athanasiou – Frans Nielsen – Gustav Nyquist

Michael Rasmussen – Luke Glendening – Tyler Bertuzzi

Thomas Vanek – Jacob de La Rose– Martin Frk

Trevor Daley – Mike Green

Dennis Cholowski – Niklas Kronwall

Danny DeKeyser – Nick Jensen

Jimmy Howard
