The Detroit Red Wings played in Boston Saturday afternoon taking on the Bruins.  The Wings continue to search for their first win of the season and would not find it once again.

The Boston Bruins utterly destroyed the Detroit Red Wings Saturday afternoon.  It was more than an embarrassing effort; it was a catastrophic performance.  The Detroit Red Wings would fall 8-2 to Boston.

After the second period, the Bruins were up 4-0 and continued to pour it on.  Jonathan Bernier played the entire afternoon allowing all 8 goals.  Detroit would score their pair in the third period.  Filip Hronek scored on the power play from Tyler Bertuzzi and Gustav Nyquist.

Dylan Larkin would score 8 minutes later shorthanded from Frans Nielsen and Nick JensenDavid Pastrnak scored a hat trick, and Patrice Bergeron had 3 helpers.  Jake DeBrusk would also net a pair for the Bruins.

There isn’t much to say on this one other than we want a rebuild in Detroit, these afternoon’s and evenings will take place. When you lose 8-2, no one had a “good” game that we need to talk about.  I would imagine Jeff Blashill will have these guys practicing (bag skate) Sunday before their match-up with the Montreal Canadians Monday night in Montreal.

As the losses continue to pile up, Jeff Blashill’s seat will start to warm some.  I mean if the Detroit Red Wings fail to record a win in the first 10-15 games Ken Holland may decide to relieve Blashill a lot sooner than expected.  Right now the teams’ overall confidence level is at an all-time low.

When a game like this happens, you think things can’t possibly get worse right?  Well, they did.  Danny DeKeyser left the game in the first period with an upper-body injury.  He would not return leaving the Wings truck on with 5 defenders.  Mike Green and Trevor Daley are both not on the short road trip.  Dennis Cholowski is day-to-day and may return Monday.  Jonathan Ericsson or Luke Witkowski will both be a possibility Monday is Cholowski is unable to go.

I am not suggesting that Martin Frk will race into the lineup and save the day but the Detroit Red Wings should try and change something up.  The power play although scoring once against Boston looked out of sorts at times especially during their 5 on 3 advantage.  Martin Frk will help on the power play and bring a scoring threat to the fourth line.

The Grand Rapids Griffins didn’t fare much better Saturday evening in Chicago taking on the Wolves.  The Griffins lost 5-1 and dropped to 1-3-0 on the young AHL season.

Patrik Rybar got the nod in net in this one, his first start of the season.  He would allow all five goals and only made 19 saves.  The Griffins would outshoot the Wolves 33-24 but would come up empty the majority of the night.

Detroit Red Wings prospect David Pope opened the scoring on the power play in the first period, and that would be it for GR the rest of the night. Needless to say, it was a disaster of an evening for the Detroit Red Wings and Grand Rapids Griffins. We hope to report good news Monday night, stay tuned.
