The Detroit Red Wings have trimmed their roster before the Tuesday 5 pm deadline.  By Tuesday the Wings will need to cut the club to 23.

The Detroit Red Wings has reassigned Filip Zadina, David Pope, Givani Smith, Harri Sateri, Vili Saarijarvi and Dominic Turgeon all to the Grand Rapids Griffins today.  In addition, the Red Wings have placed Matt Puempel, Luke Witkowski and Dylan Mclrath on waivers.  If the trio clears, they are expected to report to the Griffins.

Jonathan Ericsson has suffered a setback and is expected to miss Thursday’s home opener.  Niklas Kronwall has a “tweak” and is now joined the list of clipped defensemen all labeled questionable.  With the uncertainty and questions that remain with the day to day defense corps, the Wings at the moment are holding onto Libor Sulak and Joe Hicketts.

Kronwall joins Ericsson, Daley and Mike Green all being questionable to start the season.  The Red Wings have also released Jussi Jokinen from his personal try out.

Dennis Cholowski, Michael Rasmussen and Christoffer Ehn have been notified that they have indeed made the team out of camp.  The first two make sense, but Ehn comes as a surprise.  Ehn showed the ability to be a reliable penalty killer and creates space with his speed.

He is considered a good defensive forward.  Expect Ehn to play on the fourth line alongside Luke Glendening and what we can assume Justin Abdelkader.  They create a line that could play 13-14 minutes a night and be defensively sound in all three zones.

Per Ansar Khan of Mlive.com;

"Forward Evgeny Svechnikov left the ice Sunday at the start of practice. He was banged up in Saturday’s preseason finale and Blashill said they will see how he feels in a few days before deciding what to do with him (keep him on roster or send him to Grand Rapids)."

It seems Christoffer Ehn has beat out Evgeny Svechnikov and Martin Frk becoming the 12th forward on the club to start the season.  Martin Frk seems like the choice to stay as the 13th forward.

It makes sense to start Svechnikov down in Grand Rapids as he won’t need to clear waivers, we will wait to hear the significance of the injury.  More roster moves will need to be made before the 5 pm deadline this coming Tuesday.
