The Detroit Red Wings and Mike Green got some bad news yesterday.  Green has a virus that is attacking his liver.  Green won’t be ready for the start of the regular season.

Mike Green has been suffering from fatigue.  Green just had gotten cleared for contact a week or so ago.  At the end of last season, Green suffered a neck injury that prevented the Detroit Red Wings from finding a trade partner.

Yesterday, the Detroit Red Wings announced Mike Green saw a doctor and had some blood work completed because of his constant fatigue.  That showed he indeed had a virus that seems to be attacking his liver.

Mike Green is set to see a specialist shortly.  The Detroit Red Wings will shut Green down until they corner this virus and determine precisely what it is.  For now, Ken Holland has stated Mike Green is out indefinitely.

Per Dana Wakiji of DetroitRedWings.com;

"Green told coaches that did not have his usual energy so they held him out of practice and sent him to see the doctor.“He’s not available right now,” Wings coach Jeff Blashill said after Friday’s practice at the BELFOR Training Center. “He’s got a virus that attacked his liver, so he’s seen an infectious disease person today and we should know more here in the next little bit. I don’t know how long he’s going to be out. I don’t know the totality of it. He’s got a virus.”"

Trevor Daley expressed his thoughts and concerns on the situation;

"“Obviously it’s going to be a big loss to lose him,” Trevor Daley said. “Greener’s our teammate and our friend, so we just want him to be healthy, whatever form that is. As long as he’s healthy and ready to come back, I’ll be happy with that.”"

We hope this is not a severe situation for Mike Green.  We want to wish him the best and for a speedy recovery.  Hopefully, we see Greener on the ice as soon as possible.

Next. Keep an Eye on Libor Sulak. dark

The Detroit Red Wings will look to a pair of rookies now to start the season in Detroit.  It seems to be down to four.  Dennis Cholowski, Libor Sulak definitely lead the group after the first two preseason games.  Joe Hicketts and Filip Hronek are both knocking on the door.
