Don’t be fooled by the “A” on the chest of Niklas Kronwall.  It might as well be a “C” with the absence of Henrik Zetterberg.

The players, coaches, and management will look to Niklas Kronwall to lead the Detroit Red Wings through the 2018-19 season.  Kronwall’s play has been declining over the past few seasons.  Kronwall labored through last season along with Zetterberg.

More from Red Wings News

Kronwall with a bad wheel, played the second-fewest minutes among Detroit defensemen last season.  At 18:31 per game Nick Jensen was the only defender to play less.  Kronner was a regular 24-minute defender for the Wings for many years.

Kronner has mentioned this could very well be his final season as his contract is expiring at the seasons’ end. We expect Kronwall will see another dip in ice-time this season but will remain the leader in the locker room.

Kronwall will be a coach on the ice for the young defensemen who see playing time this season for the Detroit Red Wings.  Kronwall will be on the third pairing with a youngster this season.

Filip Hronek, Dennis Cholowski, Joe Hicketts; whoever will make the team can look to Kronwall for advice, and guidance on being a pro on and off the ice and in the gym.

The Detroit Red Wings won’t go as Niklas Kronwall goes, the impact on the ice these days are all but gone.  Kronwall will fulfill all the duties of an NHL captain, in the locker room, again for the media, community and his teammates. Kronner will serve as the Detroit Red Wings “Captain” with an “A.”
