Highlights: Marchand Scores OT Winner as Bruins Defeat Red Wings

A Detroit Red Wings comeback big was stifled by Brad Marchand and the Boston Bruins on Tuesday night.

For the fourth time this season, the Red Wings fell to the Bruins. Boston sweeps the season series and took an important two points against their division opponents.

Game Timeline

The goal-fest got underway right from the start. Torey Krug and Jake DeBrusk scored back-to-back goals less than a minute into the game as the Bruins went up 2-0 early on.

Frans Nielsen got the Red Wings on the board less than two minutes later with a power-play goal that was well screened by Justin Abdelkader.

Mike Green slipped a shot past Anton Khudobin five minutes later to tie the game at 2-2.

Krug scored his second goal of the first period on the power play to give the Bruins the lead back and end the scoring in the first period.

The second period was another goal-filled period with four more goals coming. Marchand scored his first goal on the power play to put the Bruins up 4-2.

Anthony Mantha answered nine minutes later to bring the Red Wings back within one.

Back came Marchand with his second of the night, scoring just one minute after Mantha’s goal.

Mantha decided to answer Marchand’s goal two minutes later as the two dueled it out in the second. It was a 5-4 Bruins lead at the second intermission.

The third period slowed down but the Red Wings were able to complete the comeback and force overtime. Martin Frk scored at the 9:46 mark of the third.

In overtime, Marchand scored 34 seconds in to win it for the Bruins and also record the hat-trick.

  • Jared Coreau started in net for the Wings but was pulled in the second period. He stopped 12 of the 16 shots he faced. Jimmy Howard made 19 saves on the 21 shots he faced.
  • There was no news on Frans Nielsen’s injury after the game. He took an elbow from David Backes in the first period.
  • Mantha led the way for the Red Wings with four points.
  • Tyler Bertuzzi and Mike Green both finished with two points.
  • Brad Marchand, Torey Krug, and David Pastrnak accounted for 12 of the Bruins 16 points.
