The Winnipeg Jets held off the Detroit Red Wings in a close finish on Friday night.
After taking a 4-2 lead in the second period, the Jets only held onto a one-goal advantage for a majority of the third period. However, they were able to hold off a Red Wings team that see’s their second loss of the week against a Western Conference opponent.
Game Highlights
Niklas Kronwall got the Red Wings on the board first as his shot made its way through a sea of bodies in front.
It only took the Jets just over a minute to take the lead away from the Red Wings. Patrik Laine scored his first of two goals on the night with a nifty move.
Just 26 seconds later Ben Chiarot’s shot went off the post and in for his first goal of the season.
Dustin Byfuglien made it a two-goal game in the second period when he finished off a nice sequence of passing and possession by the Jets.
Anthony Mantha got the Red Wings back within one a minute and 10 seconds later. It was his team-leading 21st goal of the season.
Laine slotted home his second goal of the game at the 12:35 mark of the second as he picked his corner and finished his shot nicely.
Trevor Daley added his eighth goal of the season to make it a 4-3 game in the third period.
Connor Hellebuyck came up with a few key saves in the final 10 minutes of the game to help the Jets secure the victory at home.
