NEW YORK, NY - DECEMBER 19: The Detroit Red Wings celebrate a goal by Trevor Daley

The Detroit Red Wings defeated the New York Islanders 6-3 on Tuesday night for their second consecutive victory.

A big win over the Islanders provided a fantastic start to the Red Wings four-game road trip.

How it Happened

The Islanders were the first to go ahead as Anders Lee recorded his 21st goal of the season.

Martin Frk answered shortly after for the Wings. The Czech forward scored for the first time since returning from injury in early December.

Gustav Nyquist gave the away side the lead before the first intermission on the power play.

In the second period, the Islanders would retake the lead thanks to two power-play goals. The first goal in the second came on a one-timer from Ryan Pulock and Josh Bailey put home a loose puck in front of the net later on.

Once again, the Red Wings would find an equalizer as Anthony Mantha tied things up before the second intermission. A mad scramble for the puck after an Islanders turnover ended up behind the net and Mantha threw the puck towards goal and it deflected in to end his six-game scoreless streak.

Three unanswered goals capped a fantastic third period for the Red Wings as they showed for the second consecutive game that they can win in the third period.

Trevor Daley would score what proved to be the game-winner just past the halfway mark of the final period.

Mike Green added an insurance goal with a nice finish into the top corner of the net.

Luke Glendening scored an empty-netter to seal the deal and make it 6-3 as he recorded his seventh goal of the season.
