Detroit Red Wings defenseman Mike Green is off to hot start with eight assists in five appearances.
It has been a fantastic start to the season for Green, the 32-year-old finds himself tied for the second most assists in the National Hockey League entering Oct. 14th.
Although Green’s four-game point streak came to an end during Friday night’s 6-3 win over the Vegas Golden Knights there should be little worry that he can’t produce further down the road.
Not the First Time
As of right now, Green is on track to have his best season in the NHL points wise. His current career best came during the 2009-10 season with the Washington Capitals where he had 76 points. During that season Green had 57 assists.
Producing assists are nothing new to Green in his career. He has had over 20 assists in both his seasons with the Red Wings and had multiple +25 assist seasons with the Capitals.
With the season just starting it would appear that Green is in for a special year. His power play presence will be a big factor in whether or not he can reach 57 assists this year. He had 35 power play points during his career-best season and right now he is at four power-play points through five games.

Green really benefits from having a player like Martin Frk to set up. The Czech forward possesses a powerful shot that will allow him to see plenty of one-timers this season and Green has already helped set up Frk. The second forward line in general as given Green plenty of options when in the offensive zone.
It’s unlikely he will match his career-high goal total but a new career-high in assists is very likely if this type of form continues. It will be yet another welcomed surprise if this indeed happens.
