The final game of the preseason for the Detroit Red Wings was an entertaining one as they defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs in a shootout.

It was a solid finish to the Red Wings preseason schedule on Saturday night at Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto. The team was comprised mostly of prospects and a handful of veterans. In the end, they were able to get the win over the Maple Leafs who they lost to the night before at Little Caesars Arena.

How it Happened

The Leafs would score the first goal of the game as Eric Fehr redirected a slap shot past Petr Mrazek.

Michael Rasmussen would net the game-tying goal in the second period which successfully converted a Red Wings power play. It was his fourth goal of the preseason.

In the third period, both teams would exchange goals in the final minutes of regulation. First, Matt Lorito scored an off-balance goal to give the Wings the lead. However, with just over a minute remaining in the period, Travis Dermott would tie it for the Leafs.

The Red Wings would have to hold out in order to send the game to a shootout as a penalty late in overtime gave the Leafs a big opportunity to win it on the power play. Fortunately, the Wings were able to limit their opponents to only a few dangerous chances as Jared Coreau stood tall in net.

In the shootout, the Red Wings went with PA Parenteau as the first shooter and he put it past the goaltender after Fehr had scored for the Leafs on the other end of the ice. Lorito would put home his opportunity in the second round of shooters to give Coreau the chance to close out the game.

Up stepped Connor Corrick who’s ensuing attempt barely stayed out of the Wings net. As a result, the away side would walk out of Ricoh Coliseum with a 3-2 win over the Leafs.
