This week featured the Detroit Red Wings first four games of the preseason. Here are the top performers from the week that was.

Team of the Week

G-Jimmy Howard

D-Mike Green

D-Nick Jensen

F-Gustav Nyquist

F-Anthony Mantha

F-Martin Frk

G-Jimmy Howard

The Red Wings did not have the best week goaltending wise as they let in 17 goals in the course of four games. Howard started two of the games this week including Saturday night’s win against the Boston Bruins.

Howard still looks like the Wings top option in net entering this season but another week of the preseason should give us a better answer. Regardless, he was definitely the better goaltender this week.

D-Mike Green

Green finished the week with two points and produced some nice passing at times on the power play. The veteran forward seems primed to lead the Red Wings defenseman in scoring once again this season.

D-Nick Jensen

It was a nice week for Jensen as he made three appearances for the Wings.  He had one point and finished with a +3 plus/minus rating. Jensen may have snuck under the radar this week but nonetheless, he makes into the team of the week.

F-Gustav Nyquist

Nyquist had a great game against the Pittsburgh Penguins this week. The forward put up four points with two goals and two assists in the Wings overtime loss. He scored the game-tying goal and was all over the place offensively creating chances and finishing them.

F-Anthony Mantha

Mantha was perhaps the most consistent Red Wings player this week. He had two points in both of his appearances and finished with a +3 plus/minus rating. This may be a sign of things to come for the upcoming regular season as he appears to be on the cusp of a terrific season ahead.

F-Martin Frk

Saturday night’s win featured two Red Wings players producing multi-goal nights, one of which was Frk. The Czech forward knew coming into the preseason that he needs to be able to show he can score during five v. five play as well as on the power play.

Saturday was the perfect answer to the coaching staff. The question is can he keep this going? If so, then he may find himself on the first team roster come the first week in October.
