The Detroit Red Wings captain is set to begin his 15th consecutive season with the organization.

It’s been a storied career for Henrik Zetterberg as the Swedish forward has been a staple of the Red Wings offensive production in his many years with the team. As we enter the 2017-18 season the captain will be tasked with helping lead the Wings back to the playoffs after missing the postseason in the 2016-17 season.

Player Info

Position: LW

Jersey Number: #40

Age: 36

Home Country: Sweden

Career Outlook

Zetterberg has produced 40 or more points in every single one of his 15 seasons in the National Hockey League. His best season to date came in the 2007-08 season when he finished with 92 points in 75 games during the regular season.

The 15 seasons with the Wings have seen Zetterberg win personal trophies as well as a Stanley Cup in the 2007-08 season. He won the Conn Smythe Trophy in the 2007-08 season and the King Clancy Memorial Trophy for the 2014-15 season.

Last Season

Despite being one of the oldest players on the roster, Zetterberg played in every single regular season game last season. Additionally, he was the most consistent player offensively in the lineup, leading the team with 68 points.

Although he did not lead the team in goal scoring he led the Wings in assists with 51. His 13 power play points ranked him second on the team behind Frans Nielsen.

The worst stretch of the season for Zetterberg was in January when he had a 10 game stretch where he only produced three points. Eight of those 10 games saw him fail to record a single point. Nonetheless, it was a small stretch in an otherwise good year offensively for the 36-year-old.

Looking Ahead

This season Zetterberg will be a huge factor in the Red Wings overall success. The team has goal scorers that are capable of putting up impressive numbers and the captain has the opportunity to put up a similar number of assists this season.

Other players will need to step up and challenge the left-winger for the number one spot on the team in point production. However, if they don’t then expect Zetterberg to comfortably be the Red Wings top points producer once more. There are no signs of the veteran slowing down.
