Game 1 – Dallas vs. Columbus Early this game was a tight checking defensive game, not unlike the NHL counterparts of the respective teams. Dallas struck early with a goal from Sergei Korostin. Both teams traded goals in the 2nd with Dallas having the 2-1 lead heading into the 3rd. Game 1 – St. Louis vs. Columbus After losing to Minnesota in the first game of the tournament, Columbus wanted to come out and make a big statement to turn around their hopes for the tournament title and Matt Calvert did just that. Calvert netted the game winner at 19:37 of the 3rd period to give the Blue Jackets a two goal lead, which thanks to a last second goal by St. Louis was needed to for the Jackets to win the game. NHL Prospect Tournament Recap – Day 1
Game 1 In the first game of the tournament the team from Columbus took on an Atlanta team that played them tough for two thirds of the game. Unfortunately for the young players of Columbus the last third was the deciding. Minnesota scored 2 goals in the 3rd period to win the game. This years NHL Prospects Tournament is hosted (as usual) by the Detroit Red Wings in Traverse City, Mi, home of the Wings training camp. It will take place from September 6-10, the week prior to all of the NHL training camps kicking off, and will include eight teams Detroit, Atlanta, Columbus, St. Louis, Dallas, New York Rangers, Minnesota, and Carolina.
