After Trading away their 29th pick in the first round, The Red Wings got on the board right with a very special offensive player in the second round of the draft. Landon Ferraro, the son of former NHL forward Ray Ferraro led his squad in goals and assists.  Ferraro, much like his dad, has a nose for the net with above average speed. Though he is a bit small, he has what it takes to be a scorer and leader in this league. A lot of that has to do with his [...]

Marian Hossa and Wings Continue to talk

AUTHOR: Joe Dexter | IN: Off-Season Notes, Red Wings | COMMENTS: None Yet

As the Wings look forward to the NHL draft this weekend, they will have negotiations on the mind. 2008-09 forty goal scorer Marian Hossa and his agent, Ritch Winter continue to talk to the Wings, hoping to get a deal done by the July 1st unrestricted free agent deadline. The Wings are pushing for a four million dollar deal per season, to fit their salary under the cap. Meanwhile, Hossa and his agent are hoping for somewhere in the range of six million (how the hell can AROD make 32 million this season. seriously?).  It could get done, if the deal is front heavy. According [...]

Three former Wings into the Hall of Fame

AUTHOR: Joe Dexter | IN: Red Wings | COMMENTS: None Yet

It’s been a long time coming for the Captain of Hockeytown, USA. Number 19, alongside former Wings Luc Robitaille and Brett Hull are heading home to the National Hockey Hall of Fame as part of the 2009 class.

Yzerman, who is busy putting together the Canadian team for the 2010 olympics in Vancouver, will also be joined in the 2009 class by former Ranger defenseman Brian Leetch. Robitaille, Hull, and Yzerman were part of the 2002 Stanley Cup championship team that beat the Carolina Hurricanes in five games.
Brett Hull accumulated 76 points in 2002 and played in the pinwheel from 2001-2003 and [...]

Nick Lidstrom has Surgery during Western Conference Finals

AUTHOR: Joe Dexter | IN: Injury Updates, Playoff Notes, Red Wings | COMMENTS: None Yet

For those critics out there thinking that Nicklas Lidstrom had lost a step during the Stanley Cup finals didn’t miss a beat. The Red Wings captain wasn’t skating slower and getting to the puck behind other forwards because of age, or lack of performance. Lidstrom had the most feared surgery for the male human being.
After being speared by Patrick Sharp in game three of the Western Conference Finals against the Chicago Blackhawks, the top defenseman wearing the wheel had surgery on his testicles. Lidstrom tried to skate during game four, but just couldn’t handle the pain. The captain ended up having surgery [...]

Locker Cleanout Day gives Insight on Upcoming Off-season Decisions

AUTHOR: Joe Dexter | IN: Red Wings | COMMENTS: None Yet

Today was the official ending of the season for the Detroit Red Wings, as players cleaned out their lockers and talked to the media one last time, after a heart-fought battle with the Pittsburgh Penguins in game seven on Friday. Since the clock ticked 0:00 in Joe Louis Arena, the talk of the town has turned to the upcoming off-season. The club has a few choices to make this off-season. Juri Hudler and Mikael Samuelson will become free agents, alongside top goal scorer Marian Hossa.  Many believe that defense is an issue, and with free agents Francois Beauchemin and Jay Bouwmeester available, [...]

Red Wings fall to Pens in Game Six; Wings are favored in Game Seven

AUTHOR: Joe Dexter | IN: Red Wings | COMMENTS: None Yet

Any true hockey fan would know that the Wings played their hearts out in game number six at Mellon Arena. Despite missing out on tying the game with two power play chances as the clock continued to unwind in the Third Period, the Wings left it out on the ice. Zetterberg just missed a goal in the third, as the puck rang loudly off the left post.
The Penguins came out strong in the first and second, and that was the difference in game six. Coach Mike Babcock noted that goaltending by Chris Osgood kept them in the game, going into [...]

Lineup Remains the same for the White and Red in Game Six; Dressing Room Reverts to 2008

AUTHOR: Joe Dexter | IN: Red Wings | COMMENTS: None Yet

Mike Babcock liked what he saw in game five, and has noted that there will be zero changes to his starting roster as the Wings look forward to tonight’s game against the Penguins. Dan Cleary didn’t skate, but he will play in tonight’s game.  Pavel Datsyuk skated, and according to reports, he looks better than he did before game five. Babcock does plan to play Zetterberg and Datsyuk together at some points in game six, but it won’t be a permanent thing. The Wings would like to shut down Sydney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin as they did in game five. [...]
