A Look at the Detroit Red Wings Eleventh Game of the Season: New York Islanders

An incredible opening ceremony and having Karen Newman sing the anthem again was a fine start to the early afternoon game. Not much happened in the first period. A two-man advantage in the second, and Raymond scored the same way he scored against Washington—camped on the side of the net and received a fine pass from Kubalik.

Copp and Rasmussen have not been amazing this year, but they are fine defensive players. Husso is a star—so quick with his feet. And no leaks—nothing goes through him. He was the defensive player of the game—another big win.

Detroit Red Wings: Game Eleven Individual Reports

Ben Chiarot – Grade B+. Another solid complementary game from Chiarot. He was out-quicked by Barzal a few times, but that happens to everyone. Clearing the crease and covering the slot that’s his job. Husso earned the shutout, but Chiarot was a firm backbone.

Moritz Seider – Grade B. Looking strong on the first power play. Seider’s penalty-killing has been the best part of his game this season. He was instrumental in chipping the puck to Erne, who cleared the puck to Suter for the shorthanded goal. He still looks to be playing at 80%. But 80% of Moritz is still an extremely fine player.

Olli Määttä  – Grade B+. Positive play with the puck and smart coverage. The second pairing has been the best pairing this year.

Filip Hronek – Grade B. Took a lot of hits to make plays. The holding penalty at the end of the second was not terrible, as the Wings got stuck in their own end for a long time. Hronek is playing better and looking like a leader. There is a lot to like about this year’s Hronek. Although perhaps he should reconsider the advice from his aesthetician and work on that mustache.

Gustav Lindstrom – Grade B. Looked good. Still a bit scrambly out there, but had more help from the forwards. Again, got hemmed in the zone for a long time and took a holding penalty.

Jordan Oesterle – Grade B. He has been an upgrade in the games he has played. Not a major upgrade, but noticeable improvement.
