Darren Helm Is Injured Again

Not again.

Darren Helm will not travel to New Jersey for tomorrow’s game against the Devils because of a shoulder injury he sustained while playing the Flyers.

The good news is that it is not his back, which would have been a huge blow to his progress. A shoulder injury is nothing to laugh at though, just ask Danny DeKeyser or Brendan Smith.

Both Smith and DeKeyser missed significant time, DeKeyser is still out, and depending on how severe Helm’s shoulder injury is the Red Wings could lose their second line center for a long period of time.

Darren Helm was just stepping into his own as a second line center, but as a legitimate scoring threat for the Red Wings. Helm is tied for fourth on the team with 7 goals and has 10 points in only 15 games this season.

Helm joins Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg on the disabled list, which makes the already thin top six even thinner.

Stephen Weiss will take over his second line center duties and the return on Todd Bertuzzi will keep the Red Wings with a full squad.

Hopefully Darren Helm will return to the line-up sooner than later for his and the Detroit Red Wings sake.

[UPDATE] – Helm has fluid in his shoulder and will be out for both games this weekend.
