A tough weekly schedule ended in disappointment for the Detroit Red Wings as they fell to the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday night in their fourth consecutive loss.

Only one point from a possible eight was the result of a poor performance in an all-important early week of the 2017-18 season. On Sunday night, the Canucks took advantage of the Red Wings miscues in a 4-1 road victory for the Canadian team.

How it Happened

The Wings fell behind first in this one as Sven Baertschi found the back of the net on a big rebound.

A goal from Anthony Mantha would bring the Red Wings back on level terms before the first intermission. The forward threw a powerful wrist shot that was too much to handle for Canucks goaltender Jacob Markstrom.

The second period was where the Canucks won the game. Three goals in an 11-minute span put the away side up 4-1 at the end of the second and made things a whole lot more difficult for the Wings in the third period.

Derek Dorsett got the scoring spree started as his shot trickled its way into the net as Jimmy Howard was to not able keep it out after an unlucky bounce on the initial save.

Baertschi recorded his second goal of the game after he took advantage of a Red Wings turnover in their own defensive zone.

Jake Virtanen would add the third of the period for the Canucks on his first goal of the season. He put home a rebound from his own initial shot.

Neither team found the back of the net in the third period as it finished 4-1.
