The Detroit Red Wings won their second preseason game in a row at Little Caesars Arena on Monday night.

It was another stellar offensive performance from the Red Wings in their 4-1 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Four different players tallied goals for the home side and Jimmy Howard recorded the win in net for the second game in a row.

How it Happened

For the first time in the preseason, the Wings were the first to light the lamp. Michael Rasmussen recorded his second goal of the preseason using his size to put one past the goaltender.

The Red Wings would add two more goals in the second period as Anthony Mantha and Tomas would score.

Scott Wilson scored for the Penguins near the end of the period to make it 3-1.

Xavier Ouellet added an empty-net goal for the only tally of the third period as it finished 4-1.

Game Notes

  • Howard finished with 11 saves on 12 shots faced. Tom McCollum had seven shots on seven shots faced.
  • Dylan Larkin recorded his third assist of the preseason.
  • The 2016 and 2017 first round pick both had a point tonight.
  • The Wings outshot the Penguins 27 to 19.

Three Takeaways

  1. Rasmussen is looking like a pro hockey player at times which has to be making his chances of at least getting on the Grand Rapids Griffin’s roster increase.
  2. Larkin and Mantha continue to impress. Both players have a realistic chance of putting up career-high numbers this season.
  3. Joe Hicketts and Dennis Cholowski have been very impressive and are certainly going to be two players that could have an impact on the Wings roster in the future.
