The Detroit Red Wings prospects defeated the New York Rangers by a final score of 4-1 on Monday night.

After dropping their first two games of the National Hockey League Prospects Tournament, the Red Wings found the win column against the Rangers. It was a fine performance from a side that needed to show they could win as a unit.

How it Happened

A scoreless opening period saw a host of penalties for both teams, including a fight right from the get-go between Givani Smith and Adrian Carbonara.

The second period yielded the first two goals of the game both coming from the Red Wings. Jordan Sambrook tucked home a rebound for his first of the tournament just three minutes into the period.

Axel Holmstrom went five-hole to record the Wings second goal of the period as the forward recorded his second point of the contest. Dominik Shine and Luke Esposito tallied the assists.

More goals came the Red Wings way in the third period. Dylan Sadowy would find the twine after showing great patience in the offensive zone.

The Rangers would finally find the back of the net at 8:29 of the third period. Ryan Gropp tucked home the tally with Brandon Crawley and Vinni Lettieri providing the assists.

Shine scored his third goal of the tournament late in the period as he put one into the empty net.
