Quick Look At The Detroit Red Wings Division Rivals: Toronto Maple Leafs

Detroit Red Wings are heading into their second season as a part of the Eastern Conference and Atlantic Division – even though most of the teams are not even near the Atlantic Ocean – and the editors from our Atlantic Division rivals will be answering a few questions regarding their team, the Detroit Red Wings, and the upcoming season.

First up on our docket is Tim Bayer (TB) the editor of Editor in Leaf, where they cover the Toronto Maple Leafs.

What were the Toronto Maple Leafs biggest additions or subtractions during the off-season?

The biggest additions were Stephane Robidas, David Booth, Daniel Winnik and Mike Santorelli. The biggest departures were Dave Bolland, Carl Gunnarsson, Nikolai Kulemin and Mason Raymond.

Me: Not sure I would call Robidas a big addition, but he should be serviceable on the blueline. Winnik might have been the best addition out of these players and might push Clarkson down in the line-up.

Which player on the Leafs will strike fear in the hearts of Detroit Red Wings when on the ice?

Phil Kessel. He scores goals.

Me: Kessel is a pure goal scorer and is a threat anytime he is on the ice.

Which player on the Detroit Red Wings are you most afraid of when he is on the ice?

Pavel Datsyuk. Dude is a wizard. Like, he might actually be one.

Me: Five in a row now. Will someone break this Russian combo or will it continue?

Another former Detroit Red Wing in a position of power. What can Brendan Shanahan do to improve the Leafs?

He’s already improved things quite a bit. He hired two smart assistant GMs in Kyle Dubas and Brandon Pridham, two smart assistant coaches in Steve Spott and Peter Horachek, and three other really smart dudes to be a part of a brand new analytics department. The future is bright with Shanny at the helm.

Me: It is surprising that Shanahan decided to join the Leafs, but he has made solid moves for the team since joining.

Who do you predict will win the season series?

Tyler Bozak will score the shootout winner in the fifth and deciding game.

Me: Fifty dollars to a charity of your choice if this comes true.

A big thank you to Tim over at Editor in Leaf for answering these questions and it will be a great season!
