This has been the year of Assistant Coaches for the Detroit Red Wings Organization. The Detroit Red Wings signed two assistant coaches and one video coach and over the past two day the Grand Rapids Griffins have added two assistant coaches.
The Grand Rapids Griffins have filled out their bench with the hiring of assistant coach Dave Noel-Bernier.
“Dave comes to the Griffins highly recommend by a number of people I trust,” said Blashill. “He has a great work ethic, is very intelligent and is detail oriented, and his experience at Nebraska-Omaha and with the Muskegon Lumberjacks will be a great asset for our staff. Dave is a driven coach and I believe his addition will help us all grow. We are excited to add him to our coaching staff.”
Dave Noel-Bernier played for Nebraska-Omaha for four years before playing semi-pro in Quebec. After a season in Quebec, he travel to Germany to play professionally for a season before returning to the US and playing for Muskegon. After a year in Muckegon, he traveled back to Germany to play for two more seasons, but ended his hockey career back in Muskegon the following season.
After his playing career was over he was hired by Nebraska-Omaha to be their Asst. Strength & Conditioning Coach, a position he held for three seasons. After those three years he took a job as the assistant coach for the Muckegon Lumberjacks in the USHL and held that position for three seasons, as well. Last year, he was an assistant coach for Grand Rapids Christian High School.
It was a strange path that led Dave Noel-Bernier to the Grand Rapids Griffins, but he has experience dealing with younger players and a wealth of knowledge that other coaches who did not take his path might not have.
