Tomas Tatar was offered three different contracts at different lengths: a two-year deal, a three-year deal, and a five-year deal, but ultimately the three-year deal won out.
While the Detroit Red Wings might have preferred to have Tomas Tatar under contract for five years, a three-year deal makes sense for both sides. It might be slightly more in favor of the Detroit Red Wings because they will get a break on his next contract because Tatar will still be a restricted free agent once this deal is over.
In his first full season with the Detroit Red Wings, Tomas Tatar ranked sixth among Red Wings with thirty-nine points – nineteen goals and twenty assists -. It did take him a short time to make his way onto the depth chart at the beginning of the season, but once he did, he became an important piece for the Detroit Red Wings.
According to capgeek, Tomas Tatar’s contract is worth $8,250,000 over three years, which means he will have a cap hit of $2,750,000 over the next three years.
