During the Detroit Red Wings Development Camp there were three prospects that missed time: Alexey Marchenko, Tyler Bertuzzi, and Richard Nedomlel.
Ten days before Development Camp began, Alexey Marchenko had screws taken out of his ankle and he is still recovering from the surgery. Because of the surgery, Marchenko missed all the practices and scrimmages during the camp.
Marchenko was able to get onto the ice to skate around, take some shots, and help the goaltenders warm up before practice.
Alexey Marchenko moved pretty well while he was on the ice, but it was easy to tell he is still recovering and his strength in his ankle is not yet at one-hundred percent. He would grimace at times if his ankle was giving him issues and his shots were a bit erratic because of it.
Once the teams stepped onto the ice, Marchenko left and headed straight for the dressing room. From the dressing room, Marchenko either headed up to the workout room or the training area to get checked out.
Tyler Bertuzzi was injured during the Memorial Cup, when he receive a knee to the quad area, and did not look like he was at full form during his first day with Detroit.
Bertuzzi talked a bit about the injury and how his leg was feeling after the first day, “It’s still a little bit bad, but I am gonna just push through it to see if it gets any better and I am going to get treatment to get it a hundred percent.”
The leg seemed to hinder him the entire time at Development Camp and ended up not playing in the practice scrimmage on day five or the full scrimmage on the last day of Development Camp, but I believe it was more of a precautionary measure.
Richard Nedomlel was injured during the first scrimmage or just before the third day of Development Camp and missed the next few days practices at Development Camp. Jeff Blashill talked to the media and said that he believed it was a minor injury, but was not positive what had happened to Richard.
Nedomlel was able to play in the scrimmage during the last day of Development Camp and played well for the White team.
While Richard Nedomlel looks to be healed up, Tyler Bertuzzi and Alexey Marchenko will have to continue to receive treatment and heal up before their respective seasons begin.
