IIHF Suspension Looming For Justin Abdelkader?

Justin Abdelkader has earned a reputation in Minsk, Belarus, but unfortunately it is a bad reputation.

In the second period against the Czech Republic, Justin Abdelkader launched himself into Czech forward Vladimir Sobotka and knocked him out the game.

The hit was unnecessary and is indefensible because of the way Abdelkader launched himself at Sobotka.

Abdelkader was given a five-minute major for charging and a game misconduct for the hit. He received a minor penalty for charging in the first period, as well.

This is Abdelkader’s second major infraction during the 2014 World Championship and even though the US is no longer in the Worlds, the IIHF can suspend him and it will count towards other international competitions.

Team USA was eliminated by the Czech Republic 4-3 in the first round of the Medal Round in the 2014 World Championship.

Hopefully, Abdelkader has gotten all the bad habits out of his system and will be ready to play clean hockey for the Detroit Red Wings once the 2014-15 NHL season rolls around.
