Only one Detroit Red Wing saw action in day five of the 2014 World Championship in Minsk, Belarus.
Sweden battled against their northern neighbor, Norway.
Sweden vs Norway
Gustav Nyquist had 14:26 minutes of ice time, pick up an assist, and was a plus one on the day. Nyquist was fore-checking and back-checking was fantastic during the game and because of his fore-checking he was able to create opportunities for himself and his teammates. His passes were always on target and his pass to Klasen out front for the goal was a thing of beauty.
Unfortunately, Nyquist was not able to register a shot in net in the game because if he had it would have been an empty net goal for the young Swede. Norway pulled their goalie in the final minutes and Nyquist was on a one-on-one in the Norse zone, but when he went to shoot the defenseman went down and just got enough of the puck to deflect it wide. Nyquist then sent the puck out front to his linemates, but neither were able to put the puck on net.
It does trouble me that Sweden is using Nyquist as a net-front on the second power play unit, but anytime Nyquist is on the ice good things have happened for Sweden.
Sweden beat Norway 2-1.
